How do I pronounce your name?

“How do I pronounce your [obviously non-English] name?”

When faced with this question, I always say that while there’s a right way in my parent’s native Hindi, there’s no “right” way in English. The big majority are satisfied, and we move on. However, some small percentage then asks me for the Hindi pronunciation, and has a go anyway. Unsurprisingly, they didn’t magically learn Hindi in the last five seconds. I wonder what those sorts of people have in common.
